A commercial property lawyer with many years’ experience, I now work as a consultant at Cripps. I have two roles: one is to train other lawyers and help them to solve clients’ problems; the other is to give advice on SDLT (stamp duty land tax), offering that service not only within the firm but to accountants and solicitors across the country.
Property transactions involve two or more interested parties – getting them to agree, explaining the issues in plain language, solving the problems, and seeing deals through to completion are all very rewarding activities.
I believe that clear communication (which involves listening as well as speaking) is at the heart of good legal advice, and that goes for dealing with colleagues as well as clients.
